Colorado intersections are dangerous places

| May 27, 2020 | Uncategorized |

Whether you’ve been a licensed driver in Colorado for decades or have only obtained a license to drive within the past five years, you have no doubt encountered traffic challenges on the roadway. It’s true that the more road trips you take by vehicle, the greater a chance you have of being involved in a collision. By adhering to traffic laws and staying alert and cautious at the wheel, however, it’s often possible to avoid auto accidents.

The problem is that no matter how safe or skilled of a driver you happen to be, you cannot control another motorist’s actions. Some road locations tend to be more dangerous than others, such as intersections. It pays to be especially cautious whenever you approach a crossroad. It’s also a good idea to know how to obtain support in the aftermath of a collision if someone hits you.

Why intersections are so dangerous

When you have to navigate a crossroad, it’s especially dangerous because you may be forced to cross paths with oncoming traffic. Turning from one road onto another is also risky, particularly if a driver fails to stop at a red light or stop sign and slams into your vehicle before you have finished your turn.

Many drivers at intersections are distracted

There has been an increase in motor vehicle collision fatalities in Colorado and throughout the United States in the past several years. How many times have you approached a crossroad only to witness drivers looking down at cell phones, taking selfies or otherwise not paying attention to the task at hand?

Driving while distracted is like playing roulette. You simply never know when tragedy will strike. Drivers who act irresponsibly often wind up causing other people injuries or worse. You can lower your risk for an intersection collision by avoiding distracted driving.

What to do if another driver hits you at an intersection

The force of a sudden collision can result in severe, even life-threatening, injuries. If you’re doing everything you’re supposed to do at an intersection but another driver fails to stop at a traffic light or doesn’t yield a right of way and hits you, your whole life can drastically change in an instant.

When auto accidents occur in Colorado or elsewhere, the top priority is always for those involved to seek medical attention. Even if you’re conscious and coherent, it’s best to allow rescuers to transport you to the nearest medical facility to make sure you do not have internal injuries. If you’re injuries are apparent, a medical team can provide proper treatment and help get you started toward recovery. Many recovering accident victims seek restitution against those deemed responsible for their injuries.
