Most Colorado residents are aware that the negligent acts of others can cause or contribute to car accidents. Negligent acts can include distracted driving, operating under the influence or losing control of a vehicle. This case is an example of a driver’s negligent actions that not only caused a car crash but also caused someone to lose his or her life.Authorities responded to the scene of an afternoon accident that happened near the interstate. According to reports, a driver was headed in the southbound direction when the vehicle came to a stop to make a left turn. Apparently, the driver was waiting for the coast to be clear when the operator of a Mack Truck made an attempt to avoid striking the other vehicle. This attempt proved to be unsuccessful, and the truck collided with a Ford truck in the northbound lanes.Sadly, the driver of the Ford truck was deceased at the scene. It is not known if the driver of the Mack Truck sustained any injuries. Authorities have not indicated if any tickets or criminal traffic citations have or will be issued.
A fatal car crash not only affects the victim, it also affects family members left behind. Surviving family members are often left with the task of making funeral arrangements and saying one last goodbye to their loved ones. However, there may be legal recourse for grieving family members by filing wrongful death claims against the other party. The civil court system in Colorado may award compensatory damages if evidence demonstrates that the other party was negligent.
