An accident has made its mark for being the first one this year in Denver. A fatal car crash has killed a woman while crossing a Colorado intersection. The crosswalk is known for motorists having a hard time seeing pedestrians crossing the street. The motorist in question allegedly took off from the scene.
The woman was reportedly hit by what looked to be a white vehicle. Upon preliminary investigation and witness questioning, officials determined that the woman was indeed making her way across the street in the crosswalk. At the same time, the alleged vehicle made a right turn, striking the woman and running her over. The motorist purportedly never stopped to check on the pedestrian and fled from the scene. The woman was left lying in what witnesses described as a pool of blood.
One of the witnesses did not realize at first that the vehicle had struck a person; they originally thought it was a plastic garbage bag. Authorities attempted to find the motorist by posting a tweet describing the vehicle as an older model white Chevy with front end damage. The motorist was eventually located, but was not arrested and it is not known if the person was cited.
A car crash can be a terrifying experience for any victim’s family members, especially when it has resulted in a death. When someone dies in an accident, surviving family members are only left with the memories they once shared of their loved one. Should a family choose, they may wish to pursue a wrongful death claim against a hit-and-run driver for financial burdens associated with the incident. A successfully navigated claim in a Colorado courtroom will need evidence that deems the driver at least partly responsible for the accident and could result in financial compensation.
