Car crash kills Colorado officer

Being involved in an accident on a motorcycle can be a dangerous and sometimes a deadly encounter. A Colorado law enforcement officer was in a tragic car crash when his motorcycle was hit by an SUV. The accident proved tragic when the officer died.

Officers responded to the scene of an accident that occurred on the highway, involving a motorcycle and an SUV. The accident reportedly happened on a Sunday morning when the driver of the SUV attempted to pass another vehicle. He crossed over into the other lane where he slammed into an officer's motorcycle head-on. When medical personnel arrived at the scene, the officer was declared dead as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the SUV only suffered minor injuries. Authorities do not believe that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It is not known if the driver will face charges related to this incident.

A car crash that results in an untimely death is devastating to loved ones. Undoubtedly, the surviving family members and fellow officers are mourning in the wake of this tragedy. While the family grieves, they are likely making funeral arrangements, which often amounts to thousands of dollars. There is legal recourse, and the deceased's family may pursue a wrongful death suit against the driver of the SUV to recover damages such as funeral expenses and emotional suffering. The civil court system in Colorado may award monetary damages if evidence deems the SUV's driver to be negligent in a way that caused the officer's death.
