Colorado man charged in car crash that left a driver dead

| Dec 31, 2013 | Uncategorized |

The night before Christmas may have turned into life-changing circumstances for several people. A 37-year-old man has been arrested following a hit and run accident in Colorado. The car crash resulted in three injuries and one fatality. The man was charged with vehicular assault and vehicular homicide among other traffic-related criminal charges.

Authorities responded to the scene of the accident and shut down part of the roadway to conduct their investigation. Authorities assert that the accident ensued near the interstate, just a little after midnight. For an unknown reason, an SUV, driven by a male motorist, slammed into a van that was carrying three passengers. Upon impact, the driver of the SUV left the scene of the crash. Authorities eventually caught up with the driver who was later treated for his injuries.

The impact caused a street sign to be knocked over. The three passengers and the driver of the van were transported to the hospital for treatment. The van’s driver suffered severe injuries that ultimately ended her life. The driver of the SUV was criminally charged with multiple traffic infractions, including felony hit and run.

Any type of car crash can be traumatizing for victims who suffer personal injury. It’s even more tragic when someone loses a life. Even when a victim is released from the hospital, that individual may still suffer ongoing medical issues that are sometimes permanent. With regard to injury cases, victims may be able to file personal injury suits against the responsible party. Under Colorado law, victims and families of deceased victims can seek to recoup compensatory damages such as medical expenses, funeral costs and pain and suffering brought on by the tragedy.
