Colorado car crash leaves teens injured near La Junta

As more negligent or inexperienced drivers travel on our roads, it makes it a more challenging experience for Colorado drivers to face on a daily basis. A number of drivers take precautions to ensure that the drive to their destination is safe. In some situations, a single car is the only vehicle involved in an accident. Recently, a serious car crash resulted in injuries to three teenagers.

According to authorities, an 18-year-old was driving on Highway 109 in Otero County when the accident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. The vehicle reportedly veered off the roadway, causing the teen to try and correct the error. In doing so, the teen apparently over-corrected and caused the vehicle to flip an unspecified number of times. The car finally came to a stop upside down. Three teens were tossed from the vehicle during the collision.

Authorities say that none of the teens were wearing their seat belts. The driver and a 19-year-old female sustained potentially severe injuries and were airlifted to a Denver hospital for treatment. A 14-year-old passenger sustained unspecified injuries. Officials are still investigating this crash and are reportedly seeking to determine if the driver was under the influence at the time of the accident.

A car crash can be a terrifying experience for victims, under any circumstances. Car accident victims may experience pain and suffering and suffer from financial loss as a result of medical expenses and related costs. The teen driver may have to respond to civil litigation filed by his injured passengers, depending on the outcome of this investigation. The injured victims or family members may pursue personal injury claims in Colorado, seeking reimbursement of financial damages sustained from the car crash. To prevail, they will need to establish that the driver negligently caused the collision, leading to the injuries that resulted.
