There are some types of work environments which are more prone to cause injuries. Some of these include environments with heavy machinery such as construction sites. However, most people would not consider being on a television show a dangerous situation. Unfortunately, this turned out to be the case for one woman who was recently killed in an accident in Colorado which resulted in a wrongful death lawsuit.
The woman was participating in a reality television show called ‘Brothers in Arms’ which focused on her family’s business, a shooting range and fire arms shop. The accident occurred during the opening scene of the show which was supposed to have clouds of smoke which the employees were going to walk through. However, during the filming of this sequence a pyrotechnic device ended up malfunctioning and struck the woman, causing her death.
According to the decedent’s husband, the 33-year-old woman was hit by projectiles which were 10 to 12 inches in length upon detonation of the pyrotechnic devices. The complaint filed by the husband alleged the set of the television show lacked licensed pyrotechnicians. Only eight days of filming had been completed when the fatal accident happened.
Unfortunately, the ordeal is far from over for the husband who now has to navigate through the Colorado court system in order to prevail in his wrongful death lawsuit. He will also have to present the evidence in front of a judge while applying the evidence to statutes and case law in order to articulate a well-crafted legal argument. The husband will also have to be familiar with court procedure and rules of evidence.
