Every day, millions of people get behind the wheel of their cars as part of their busy lives. Sometimes, Colorado drivers who are in a rush take a chance by exceeding the speed limit. Others may be distracted by technology, and still others may choose to take their life, and that of those around them, for granted by drinking before getting behind the wheel. Unfortunately, when these actions occur, a car accident may be the result.Police are still investigating a crash that left one person dead and three others injured on a Colorado roadway. Part of this investigation will be to determine whether charges will be filed against one unidentified driver who police believe may have been driving drunk. Police say a driver ran a red light and drove into oncoming traffic.Once there, the car struck an oncoming taxicab operated by a 29-year-old man. The driver of the taxi was killed. Three other people were critically injured, though their identities were not initially released. The man who died was an immigrant from Liberia, and had two daughters.
The devastation that surrounds a horrific car accident like this one affects more than just those immediately involved. Often, personal injuries sustained in a car accident leads to lengthy periods of medical and financial recovery. Once the investigation has been concluded, the injured victims, and the family of the man killed, may choose to pursue civil litigation against the driver. Under Colorado’s personal injury laws, the victims of an injurious accident that was caused by the negligence of another party may seek damages against that party to compensate them for their financial and emotional losses. For the family of the man killed, two young daughters have been left behind, which may make the need for assistance even greater in order to stabilize their future.
