Colorado man charged for drunk driving accident

The DUI car accident reportedly took place when the 25-year-old driver drove his pickup truck off of the left side of Highway 113, causing the vehicle to roll over. Both he and his 29-year-old passenger, who is also his step-cousin, were ejected from the vehicle when it overturned.According to a report from the Colorado State Patrol, the person who called the accident in to emergency responders stated that one of the men was not conscious or breathing. Although the name of that person is not specified, it is believed to be the passenger. When police arrived at the scene of the crash, they found him about 30 feet from the vehicle. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was declared to be in critical condition. His current status is not known. The driver was also taken by ambulance to the hospital, but his injuries seem to be less severe. He reportedly suffered bruises and swelling as well as a possible head trauma after reportedly striking his head on the pavement. However, the driver, who admitted to drinking two or three beers prior to the accident, is also facing criminal charges in connection with the crash. Specifically, he is charged with DUI, careless driving and vehicular assault driving under the influence.Source: Journal-Advocate, "UPDATE: Two ejected from vehicle in rollover accident," David Martinez, Sept. 19, 2012
