A 21-year-old man is recovering in the hospital after sustaining injuries in a recent car crash. The young man was involved in an accident Aug. 21. Police say the 21-year-old driver pulled out in front of another vehicle at an intersection. The two vehicles collided. A third vehicle was also hit.This accident occurred in another state, but the situation could just as easily have taken place in Colorado. Such things happen every day, as we all know.The impact of the crash forced the 21-year-old driver into the passenger seat of his vehicle. He suffered life-threatening injuries and required surgery.
No one else was seriously injured in the crash in Alaska.
An officer with the Fairbanks Police Department who happens to also be a friend of the victim’s family used the opportunity to remind drivers to remain cautious to avoid accidents like this from happening.
“People need to slow down,” the officer said. “It just takes the extra second to make sure the intersection is clear.”
Car accidents are a frequent occurrence no matter where we happen to be driving. However, that does not make them any less tragic. The fact is that most car accidents are preventable. Drivers who are inattentive, fail to obey traffic laws or choose to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs are much more likely to be involved in a serious crash.
People who are injured in car accidents may sustain devastating injuries. They may require hospitalization, surgery and painful rehabilitation. Their medical bills may become overwhelming.
Fortunately, people who are injured in an accident as a result of another driver’s reckless behavior have legal recourse. They may file a civil lawsuit against the negligent party. After all, people who engage in careless behavior and injure others in the process should be held responsible.
